International Schools Services (ISS)
Since 1955 ISS has been a nonprofit corporation dedicated to educational excellence for children attending international schools worldwide. ISS is led by a team of professionals with many years of international experience. ISS develops, supports and manages schools and provides teacher and administrator recruitment services. To date, ISS has managed over 100 sponsored schools in more than 40 countries and currently works with more than 300 international schools. Every year, it sends numerous well-prepared students to the world's famous universities.
International School Services (ISS) assists ISD in an advisory capacity to implement a quality international school program for students.
ISD is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). This is an indication that we have set the foundation for an exceptional school by meeting very high international standards of educational excellence. WASC is one of six regional associations that accredit public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the United States. WASC accredits top international schools primarily in the Asia-Pacific region. ISD is now one of only 37 WASC-accredited international schools in all of China. Given that there are literally thousands of schools in China that call themselves 'international,' WASC accreditation is an externally validated assurance that we are part of an elite set of top international schools offering high quality educational programs.
The International School of Dongguan is also a proud member of two regional professional organizations for international schools: Association of Chinese and Mongolian International School (ACAMIS) and East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS).
In addition to the WASC accreditation, ISD is accredited by the National Center for School Curriculum and Textbook Development (NCCT) of the Ministry of Education of China.
International accreditation has been available for over two decades to international schools in China's mainland. In recent years Chinese accreditation has been developed. As a result the National Center for School Curriculum and Textbook Development (NCCT), established in 1998 as a non-governmental agency affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China, is authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Education to provide Chinese accreditation to Schools for Children of Foreign Nationals (international schools) in China.
The Importance of NCCT Accreditation
The award of NCCT accreditation to schools for children of foreign nationals enables a school to be recognized as 'Xue Li Jiao Yu' (formal schooling) by the Chinese authorities. This status is advantageous to international schools in their dealings with various government agencies.
Faculty Recruitment and ISS
The International School of Dongguan is managed by International School Services (ISS). All staff recruitment and hiring is coordinated by International School Services, with recruitment of the best and brightest educators from around the world. All teachers are required to meet all certification and licensing requirements set by China, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and ISS.
The school year is comprised of 180 teaching days divided into 2 semesters and 4 quarters. The school year commences in mid-August and closes in mid-June.
Early Childhood Program
Pre-Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten classes cater to the needs of our youngest students, aged three and four, with a child-centered, experiential and investigative approach to teaching and learning. Small class sizes and a comfortable mix of structured play, the arts, drama, physical experiences and pre-academics are key features of the curriculum.
The Senior Kindergarten through 5th grade day is divided into various learning blocks of time. These learning blocks allow the student to learn the skills and content within each subject area in a more focused framework. Like the Middle school, the Elementary School students experience a rich variety of “specials.” Every student benefits from having classes of Art, Music, Physical Education, Library and Chinese within our four-day rotating cycle.
Students in the Middle School enjoy a challenging academic curriculum, fostering a love of learning, and enhancing a feeling of self worth. Middle School students have the opportunity to explore a variety of core subjects and follow their interests through electives, as well as the rich After School Activities and ‘Classrooms without Walls' programs. ISD middle school students use technology as a learning tool to work collaboratively, think critically about the world around them, and to communicate effectively with others. The middle years are a time of great growth, and the talented and dedicated ISD staff work in partnership with parents to ensure that our students maximize their potential in both their academic and social/emotional development at this crucial time.
The International School of Dongguan (ISD) High School offers a rigorous college preparatory program. ISD is a candidate school with aspirations to become an International Baccalaureate World School offering the Diploma Program to grade 11 and grade 12 students starting in August 2015. All High School classes carry credit towards a High School graduation diploma and our students will be counseled to gain entry into the most prestigious universities in the world. The ISD High School is a technology rich environment with a fully wireless campus. The campus offers not only a beautiful setting for learning but a collaborative approach with multiple paths to prepare the graduate to serve our global community.

For children who are English language learners, these activities provide them with opportunities to improve their language skills and to learn more about different cultures.
At ISD we believe that service learning is an important personal and educational experience. Service learning involves developing understanding, acting positively and reflecting upon the local and global community.
