Qilin Pride | Shining Bright in the WSC ToC at Yale University

In November, 5 teams of ISD, accompanied by supportive parents and our Head of School, traveled to New Haven, Connecticut, USA, to compete in the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) Tournament of Champions (ToC). Our young scholars faced off against nearly 1,500 participants from around the globe, achieving impressive results.

11月，5支ISD代表队在带队家长和总校长的陪同下前往美国康涅狄格州纽黑文参加“世界学者”杯（WSC）冠军轮的比赛。ISD的年轻学者与世界各地全球轮晋级的近1500名参赛者展开角逐，成绩傲人。

11월에 ISD의 5개 팀은 헌신적인 부모님들과 학교장님과 함께 미국 코네티컷주 뉴헤이븐으로 여행을 떠나, 예일대에서 열린 World Scholar’s Cup(WSC) 챔피언십 토너먼트에 참가했습니다. 우리 학생들은 전 세계에서 온 1,500명의 참가자들과 경쟁하여 놀라운 결과를 얻었습니다.

The honor achieved at the ToC reflects our students’ hard work and dedication, and the dedication of their coaches and chaperones along the way. From the Beijing Regional Round to the Bangkok Global Round and Yale Tournament of Champions, they have navigated tough competition. They have honed their skills through rigorous training and teamwork. We are proud of their accomplishments!

荣誉的取得离不开麒麟学子的个人努力与坚持，以及他们教练和陪同人员一路上的辛勤付出。从北京区域轮到曼谷全球轮，再到现在的耶鲁冠军轮，他们在层层比拼中披荆斩棘。在每一次训练和模拟中，他们不断提升自己的技能，展现出卓越的学术追求和非凡的团队合作能力。我们为他们的成就感到无比自豪！

ToC에서의 영예는 우리 학생들의 노력과 헌신, 그리고 그들의 코치와 동반자들의 지원을 반영합니다. 베이징 지역 라운드부터 방콕 글로벌 라운드와 예일 챔피언십 토너먼트까지, 그들은 치열한 경쟁을 헤쳐 나갔습니다. 엄격한 훈련과 팀워크를 통해 그들의 기술을 연마했습니다. 우리는 그들의 성취를 자랑스럽게 생각합니다!

“Our students’ achievements at Yale speak volumes about their talent, perseverance, and ability to thrive on the global stage,” said Mr. Mark McCallum. “Earning 41 medals and excelling in such a competitive environment reflects the exceptional character of ISD students. They continue to make us proud and inspire everyone around them.”

Chasing Dreams at Yale: Participating in a World-class Academic Event 

The WSC ToC, held at Yale University, is the highlight of the WSC. This invitation-only competition features only those teams that exceed a specific score in the Global Rounds. For our students, this experience is a rare honor.

世界学者杯冠军轮在美丽的美国耶鲁大学校园举行，是该赛事最重要的盛典。这一轮比赛采用邀请制，只有在全球轮中超过特定分数线的团队成员才能获得参赛资格。能够站在这样一个国际学术盛典的舞台上，对我们的学生来说，这是一份难得的荣誉和宝贵的经历。

WSC ToC는 예일대에서 열리는 WSC의 하이라이트입니다. 이 초대 전용 대회는 글로벌 라운드에서 특정 점수를 초과한 팀만이 참가할 수 있습니다. 우리 학생들에게 이 경험은 드문 영예입니다.

Our participants engaged in fierce competition with some of the world’s best young scholars, showcasing their talents and knowledge across four core academic rounds: Team Debate, Collaborative Writing, Scholars’ Challenge, and Scholars’ Bowl. Reflecting on the competition, our young scholars found the most intense rounds to be the Team Debates and Scholars’ Bowl.

我们的参赛学生与全球最优秀的青年学者展开激烈比拼，并与更强的团队进行学习与交流，在激烈的四大核心学术环节比赛中，无论是团队辩论、学术写作、个人竞答，还是团队竞答，他们都展现出了非凡的才华与深厚的知识储备。 回忆起比赛的过程，我们的小学者们纷纷表示，最激烈的环节无疑是团队辩论和知识竞答。

참가자들은 팀 토론, 협업 작문, 학자 도전, 학자 볼의 네 가지 핵심 학술 라운드에서 세계 최고의 젊은 학자들과 치열한 경쟁을 펼치며 그들의 재능과 지식을 선보였습니다. 대회를 회상하며, 우리 학생들은 가장 강렬한 라운드로 팀 토론과 학자 볼을 꼽았습니다.

“In the Team Debates, we quickly researched and discussed topics, facing opponents on stage to express their views and deliver rebuttals, which tested our quick thinking and depth of understanding. In the Scholars’ Bowl, we had just 15 seconds to answer each question, requiring solid knowledge and strong collaboration. Each challenging question demanded teamwork, quick decision-making, and strategic thinking to earn points.”

“팀 토론에서는 주제를 빠르게 연구하고 논의하며, 무대에서 상대와 맞서 자신의 견해를 표현하고 반박을 제시했습니다. 이는 우리의 빠른 사고력과 깊은 이해를 시험했습니다. 학자 볼에서는 각 질문에 단 15초만 주어졌고, 탄탄한 지식과 강한 협력이 필요했습니다. 각 도전적인 질문은 팀워크, 빠른 의사 결정, 전략적 사고를 요구하여 점수를 얻었습니다.”

During this tournament, they had the opportunity to interact closely with Yale faculty and alumni, participating in informative workshops that provided practical tips for college applications and insights into studying and living at top universities. Such exchanges offered valuable information and ignited their aspirations for future university life.

在亮点纷呈的冠军轮中，他们近距离会面耶鲁大学的师生以及校友并参与互动，在干货满满的专题分享会中汲取名校申请的实用技巧，收获在世界顶尖名校学习与生活的不同经验与观点。通过这样的交流，学生们不仅获得了实用的信息，更激发了他们对未来大学生活的向往。

이번 토너먼트 동안, 학생들은 예일 교수진과 동문들과 가까이서 교류할 기회를 가졌으며, 대학 지원에 대한 실용적인 팁과 명문 대학에서의 학업 및 생활에 대한 통찰력을 제공하는 유익한 워크숍에 참여했습니다. 이러한 교류는 귀중한 정보를 제공하고 미래의 대학 생활에 대한 열망을 불러일으켰습니다.

Encountering Diversity on the Journey: Connecting with Different Cultures

Additionally, our students enjoyed various social and cultural activities, during the ” Scholar’s Scavenge,” our scholars teamed up with participants from different countries to explore Yale, completing a series of fun tasks. They encountered real alpacas in New Haven Green, an experience that thrilled them. This activity helped them make new friends deepened their bonds through their interactions.

除此之外，他们还参与了丰富的社交和文化活动。在“城市寻宝”环节中，小学者们与来自不同国家的参赛者组成了队伍，依据活动指引，探索耶鲁大学的各个角落，完成一系列有趣的任务。在纽黑文绿地广场，他们遇见真正的羊驼，这一奇妙的经历让他们兴奋不已。这个环节不仅让他们结识了新朋友，彼此之间的友谊也在互动中不断加深。

또한, 학생들은 다양한 사회 및 문화 활동을 즐겼습니다. “학자 스캐빈지” 동안, 학자들은 다른 나라의 참가자들과 팀을 이루어 예일을 탐험하고 일련의 재미있는 과제를 완료했습니다. 뉴헤이븐 그린에서 실제 알파카를 만나 흥분하기도 했습니다. 이 활동은 새로운 친구를 사귀고 상호 작용을 통해 유대감을 깊게 했습니다.

The Cultural Fair featured booths highlighting the unique traditions of various nations, allowing students to immerse themselves in global cultures. Our students set up a booth offering diverse cuisines, attracting many participants. This experience enabled them to engage with cultures from around the world and learn about different customs. Through interactions with representatives from various countries, they appreciated the distinct aspects of each culture and felt the pride the exhibitors had for their heritage.

这次文化村汇聚了不同文化的特色摊位，让学生们充分感受世界各地的文化气息。我们的学生也设立了一个特色文化摊位，提供各地的美食，吸引了众多参与者。他们直接接触到来自其他国家的文化，了解不同国家的风俗习惯。在与各国代表互动时，他们不仅欣赏到了各国的特色，还感受到了参展者对自己国家文化的热情与自豪。

문화 박람회에서는 다양한 국가의 독특한 전통을 소개하는 부스가 마련되어 학생들이 세계 문화를 체험할 수 있었습니다. 우리 학생들은 다양한 음식을 제공하는 부스를 운영하여 많은 참가자들을 끌어모았습니다. 이 경험을 통해 전 세계의 문화와 교류하고 다양한 관습에 대해 배울 수 있었습니다. 여러 나라의 대표들과의 상호 작용을 통해 각 문화의 독특한 측면을 감상하고 전시자들이 자신의 유산에 대해 가진 자부심을 느꼈습니다.

The support of the ISD community has been crucial. We sincerely thank every parent for their dedication, especially PSA Co-Chair Ms. Angel, Ms. Melva, and Ms. Lucy for their great support during the Yale ToC. Head of School, Mr. Mark McCallum was also present in the U.S. to encourage and support the teams. We also appreciate the coaching and mentoring provided by Ms Angel, Mr. MacDonald (ISD University Advisor) and Ms. Cardenas (EST Coordinator).  We also were supported by ISD Alumni in New York. Our Alumni joined us for many activities and even led tours of various university campuses to help enhance our student’s trip.

在麒麟学子闪耀国际舞台的背后，ISD社区的支持同样不可或缺。我们衷心感谢每位家长的辛勤付出，特别是家委会联合主席Ms. Angel、Ms. Melva和Ms. Lucy在耶鲁大学冠军轮期间的全程陪伴。校长Mr. Mark McCallum也在美国协助家长以及为同学们加油。同时，感谢Ms. Angel, Mr. Macdonald和Ms. Cardenas在团队出发前提供的指导，帮助学生们做好充分准备。

随着这次在耶鲁大学的比赛圆满落幕，然而，这份荣耀并未结束。每一次挑战都是新的起点，我们相信，这些经历将激励他们继续追求卓越，同时也激励其他同学勇敢面对未来的机遇与挑战。我们共同期待他们在未来的每一步，勇敢追逐梦想，继续闪耀光芒！
