Congratulations to three ISD students, Chiying Lin, Chenyu Lin and Chuhan Zhang, for their outstanding performance in the NEA English Drama and Speech Online Certification. They each received Distinction in the Public Speaking! Distinction is the highest grading level. This indicates that our students fully met the requirements of the examination and presented a high-quality performance. They passed the certification examinations and received certificates issued by the NEA (New Era Academy), which is officially recognized by The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).

NEA, founded in 1941, is one of the leading drama certification boards in the UK. Its purpose is to encourage and cultivate learners to express themselves through oral and body language and explore their self-worth. NEA is an innovative examinations board, offering diverse and varied disciplines through well-structured syllabi. NEA encompasses the fast paced, ever-changing world around us within its examinations, allowing learners to develop their creativity and imagination, enabling them to grow their skills to t their environment. Candidates could get up to 60 UCAS tariff points, enhancing their chances of university or higher education entrance.

ISD offers theater classes in the middle school. In grades 6-7, theater classes serve as exploratory classes designed to introduce the basic knowledge and skills necessary to build a foundation for further development. In grade 8, theater classes serve as electives designed to further develop knowledge and skills in a genre of studies that is aligned with the student’s passions and talents and to help prepare students for future learning.
ISD在初中阶段开设戏剧课程。在6至7年级，戏剧课作为探索课程，向学生教授必要的基础知识和技能，为进一步发展打下基础，并为学生创造机会，发现他们的激情或天赋。在8年级，戏剧课作为选修课，旨在根据学生的兴趣和才能，进一步发展他们的知识和技能，并帮助他们为未来的学习做好准备。

In theater classes, students learn historical background of plays, the basic knowledge of stage set-up, and the terminology related to theatre. They learn to present their emotions of the plays with different vocal techniques, and express and communicate their emotions and feelings through language and body movement. Meanwhile, the teacher works with students on acting techniques and developing the stage character and intention of characters. Fully understanding the theater script and analyzing the character’s personality helps to improve ISD students’ reading skills and develop their empathic psychology. In addition, students strengthen their language skills as they rehearse, perform, and evaluate the performances of others.
在戏剧课堂上，学生可以了解戏剧的历史背景，学习舞台布景等基础知识和戏剧的相关术语；学习用不同的发声技巧来呈现戏剧情感，通过语言和肢体动作，对情绪进行表达和交流。同时，老师还会和学生一起研究表演技巧，阐释人物性格以及角色意图。充分理解戏剧剧本并分析角色性格可以提高学生的阅读能力，培养他们的共情心理。此外，学生在排练，表演并对他人的演出进行鉴赏的过程中，强化了语言表达能力。

ISD offers students a variety of hands-on opportunities to learn about performing arts to enhance their English expression. For example, the 2022-23 secondary school arts showcase provided a stage for the students to showcase their talents. Grade 7 and grade 8 students presented the play of Mother Courage and Her Children and The Crucible, respectively. Being involved in the process from script selection, characterization, rehearsal to performance, students applied what they learned in the classroom, built self-confidence, learned communication skills and leadership, and maintained good interpersonal relationships.

ISD is a place where English expression is valued both inside and beyond the classroom. In addition to theater classes, students enhance their English language skills in English Language Arts classes and other subject areas. They are given many opportunities to participate in learning activities such as presentations, debates, or speeches. These learning activities allow them to improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English, learn to express themselves verbally in English and physically and improve their ability to adapt and perform on stage, equipping them for success in school and beyond!
ISD注重在课堂内外培养学生的英语表达能力。除了戏剧课，学生还在英语语言艺术课以及其他学科领域提升英语语言表达能力。学生有很多机会参加课堂展示、辩论或者演讲等学习活动。学生可以在这些课堂学习活动中全面提高英语听说读写运用，学习英语口头表达和肢体表达，同时不断提升临场应变能力和表现力。通过这些方式，学校助力学生在校内和校外舞台上绽放光彩！
ISD는 교실 안팎에서 영어 표현이 중요시되는 곳입니다. 연극 수업 외에도 학생들은 영어 예술 수업 및 기타 과목 영역에서 영어 실력을 향상시킵니다. 그들은 프레젠테이션, 토론 또는 연설과 같은 학습 활동에 참여할 수 있는 많은 기회가 주어집니다. 이러한 학습 활동을 통해 학생들은 영어 듣기, 말하기, 읽기 및 쓰기를 향상하고, 구두로 그리고 신체적으로 자신을 표현하는 방법을 배우고, 무대 적응 및 공연 능력을 향상시켜 학교와 그 이상에서 성공할 수 있도록 준비할 수 있습니다!
