The head of school, Mark McCallum, expressed his genuine pride in the graduates’ exceptional accomplishments. He spoke of the “transformative” nature of life’s milestones, describing one’s life experiences as a series of building blocks, where each transformative moment is a valuable experience that shapes the breadth and depth of one’s life journey. He encouraged the graduates to embrace the future with an open and empathetic mindset.

“These foundations of blocks grow thicker, wider, and stronger for the rest of your life. Experiences keep coming out, you live with them, and you feel them. Every so often you experience a transition, and you get shaken up. These transitions always make you stronger. They help you develop your resilience.”

IBDP teacher Dr. Storch, with wisdom and a touch of humor, reminisced with the graduates about the meaningful times they had shared through their learning at the school. He expressed his pride in these students who, through their efforts, had ultimately completed their high school education, and conveyed his heartfelt blessings to them.

The Class of 2024 valedictorian, Jennie Y., took to the stage to deliver a heartfelt address that reflected on her cherished learning experiences at ISD. In her remarks, Jennie recalled the profound challenges of navigating online learning during the pandemic, as well as the relentless efforts and breakthroughs she and her peers had made in mastering the IB curriculum.

“We should not stop ourselves from opportunities and challenges because of the fear of taking responsibility. What we would have to do is to keep learning and break because the necessary skills are already built inside of us. I would like to again, congrats all of our IB survivors.”

The graduation ceremony was undoubtedly a profound moment of pride and accomplishment for each student. It marked the achievement of a hard-earned and significant milestone in their lives. The graduates confidently walked up to the stage, received their diplomas from the principal, and solemnly moved the tassels on their graduation caps, symbolizing their transition from high school and the commencement of a new academic chapter.

This year, the ISD Class of 2024 graduates have received offers from top universities across the globe, including universities in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Hong Kong. Among these, many students have been accepted to schools ranked among the top 100 worldwide. What is even more delightful is that numerous students have been accepted into their dream program at these prestigious institutions, which is undoubtedly the best testament to their IB learning achievements.
