At ISD, our definition of the word “classroom” has never been confined to walls and books. To create a learning environment without walls, students are able to know more about people from different cultures and countries. Therefore, ISD will regularly invite professionals from different industries to pay a visit and share their professional knowledge and life experience with students.
On September 12th, we invited Mr. Ismo Seeve, a famous Finnish designer, to the class of the IB Visual Art program. Different from traditional lectures, the content of our conversation with Mr. Seeve, covers aspects from design concepts to entrepreneurial activities, as well as experiences and insights into life. Mr. Seeve went into the classroom and interacted with the students so that everyone had close contact with the developmental advantages and first-hand information from the industrial design industry.
In 2006, Mr. Ismo Seeve came to China for the first time, and since then he has forged an indissoluble bond with this land. Three years later, he met the love of his life, a former female football player, at Beijing Capital Airport, which made him determined to live in China, settled down, and brought his business to this country.
Mr. Seeve also personally demonstrated to the students how to use acrylic paints in a free way. Common objects such as chopsticks and spoons from our daily life can become tools for artistic creation. Mr. Seeve shared with ISD students how he got creative inspiration from European street artists, and how he changed from the field of interior design to packaging design. He also talked about his early life as an art student when he was unable to create with computers. Everything had to come through the hands of an artist-to-be. For this reason, he encouraged the “future artists” to return to the essence of artistic creation.
As we all know, Art, serving as one of the six subjects of the IB Diploma Programme, is not a sub-subject in the traditional impression, but has the same important status as other subjects in the international curriculum. In addition to equipping students with the basic theory and techniques of art, the IB Visual Arts program also helps them solve the following problems:
• Why do people create art?
• How to create art?
• What kind of art will people create?
These metaphysical issues are actually the core issues of CAS (Creativity、Action、Service). Even if the creative direction and ideas are different, everyone’s perception of these issues will eventually play a role in enlightening their artistic creation.
이러한 형이상학적 문제는 실제로 CAS(Creativity、Action、Service)의 핵심이슈입니다.
