Moment | Celebrating Diversity and Harvest in Fall Festival

Autumn signifies the transition of seasons and is also a time to celebrate the harvest. Many people throughout the world organize autumn celebrations to express their gratitude for nature’s bounty and to share their joy at the fruits of their labor. ISD hosts the Global Fall Festival, when teachers and students explore the diverse traditions, traditional practices, and stories linked with autumn in various cultures.

The Dress-up Day was one of the highlights of the ISD Global Fall Festival. Students and teachers dressed up as characters from their cultures. Some kids dressed up like brilliant maple leaves to represent the essence of fall and the beauty of nature. Others dressed out in traditional attire, displaying their culture and history. There were also students who dressed up as favorite characters, adding a touch of imagination and creativity to the event.

During the Global Fall Festival, the school held the Arts and Crafts Contest in which students created unique artworks using recycled materials and drawing inspiration from their own cultures. They demonstrated their creativity and cultural appreciation via inventive creations ranging from beautifully carved pumpkins signifying delight and mystery to delicate lanterns indicating reunion and good luck, as well as hand-painted traditional fall patterns. This competition not only encourages students’ artistic expression, but it also promotes environmental awareness by encouraging material reuse.

In the spirit of compassion and giving back, a week-long Donation Drive was organized as a significant component of the festival. Students and staff participated, generously donating their used clothes and shoes. The donated items were collected and then distributed to local charities, reaching those in need. The ISD community not only celebrated the joy of the harvest during the festival but also demonstrated warmth and care, fostering empathy and a sense of social responsibility among the students.

Mr. Jason, an ISD teacher, talked to his students about their lessons from the donation practice. Max and Hugh, two students, shared that helping others is also helping oneself and donating helps a person practice kindness. The other pupils, Oscar, Leo, and Harry agreed that donating is good because they can help families who are in need. Helping other people can make them happy.
