Social Studies is the integrated study of multiple fields of social science and the humanities, including history, culture, geography, and political science. Courses are designed to foster open-mindedness, while exposing students to the skills and approaches of disciplines in the social sciences. At ISD, teachers teach students social studies so that they learn different ways of thinking and how to analyze problems. At the same time, students can understand the world we live in from a different perspective through the course.For Elementary to Grade 10 students, ISD teachers follow the rigorous AERO Curriculum guidelines and the Common Core standards in teaching Social Studies. Teachers emphasize on developing questions and planning inquiries, constructing arguments and explanations, and communicating conclusions in Social Studies practices.

社会科学课是一门对社会科学和人文科学多个领域的综合研究课程,其中包括历史、文化、地理和政治科学等领域。课程设计旨在培养学生的开放性思想,同时让学生学习社会研究课程中各类学科的技能和方法。在ISD,老师通过教授学生社会科学课程知识, 帮助他们学习不同的思考方式以及分析问题的方法。同时,学生通过课程学习,能够从不同的角度认识我们所生活的这个世界。在小学部至十年级社会科学课的教学中,ISD老师采用严谨的AERO课程准则北美共同核心标准。在社会科学课的实践中,教师特别重视鼓励学生提出问题和设计探究方法,构建论点并进行阐释,以及就结论参与交流。

사회학은 역사, 문화, 지리학, 정치학 등 인문학과 사회과학의 여러 분야를 통합적으로 연구하는 학문입니다. 코스는 열린 마음을 키우고 학생들에게 사회 과학 분야의 기술과 접근 방식을 노출하도록 설계되었습니다. ISD에서 교사들은 학생들에게 다양한 사고 방식과 문제 분석 방법을 배우도록 사회 과목을 가르칩니다. 동시에 학생들은 코스를 통해 우리가 살고 있는 세상을 다른 관점에서 이해할 수 있습니다.

초등학교에서 10학년까지의 학생을 위해 ISD 교사는 사회 과목을 가르칠 때 엄격한 AERO 커리큘럼 지침과 공통 핵심 표준을 따릅니다. 교사는 질문을 개발하고 질문을 계획하고, 주장과 설명을 구성하고, 사회 연구 실습에서 결론을 전달하는 것을 강조합니다.

In Grade 4, students use a variety of methods to explore human society and social relationships in the Social Studies with the units including map reading, world culture, economics, and world history etc,. Mark Connolly, the grade 4 homeroom teacher, began map reading by teaching the students about the 7 continents and the 5 oceans, Locations of nations, Directions, How to read a compass, Map legends and Map scale bars.

四年级学生们通过形式多样的方法,来探索社会科学中人类社会和社会联系等内容,学习的单元包括查阅地图、世界文化、经济和世界历史等。四年级的班主任Mark Connolly带领学生开启了关于查阅地图的内容学习,其中涉及的知识包括认识七大洲和五大洋,国家地理位置以及不同方位,了解如何使用指南针,以及学习地图图例和比例尺等。4학년에서는 지도 읽기, 세계 문화, 경제, 세계사 등의 단원을 통해 사회과에서 다양한 방법을 사용하여 인간 사회와 사회적 관계를 탐구합니다. 4학년 담임 교사인 Mark Connolly는 학생들에게 7대륙과 5대양, 국가의 위치, 방향, 나침반 읽는 방법, 지도 범례 및 지도 축척 막대에 대해 가르치면서 지도 읽기를 시작했습니다.

Mr. Mark encourages students to be active in the learning experience and gives them opportunities to demonstrate their learning in multiple ways. Locations such as police stations, banks, libraries, parks, shopping malls and many others were set up around the school common pod area. Students were spilt into pairs and were given compass and sheet to answer questions such as “If you go from the bank to the library which direction do you travel?”  They had to find the two named locations and then deciphered which direction they must travel to go from one to the other.
Mark老师鼓励学生积极投入到学习实践中,并为他们提供大量机会以展示学习成果。老师在在公共区域中设置了警察局、银行、图书馆、公园、商场等模型。学生分成两人为一个小组,利用指南针寻找方向,并在表格中解答问题,如:从银行到图书馆,你应该往哪个方向走?学生要学会找到两个地点,然后辨识出应该沿着哪个方向才能到达指定地点。
Mr. Mark는 학생들이 학습 경험에 적극적으로 참여하도록 격려하고 다양한 방법으로 학습을 보여줄 기회를 제공합니다. 경찰서, 은행, 도서관, 공원, 쇼핑몰 및 기타 많은 장소와 같은 위치가 학교 공통 포드 영역 주변에 설정되었습니다. 학생들은 짝을 지어 나침반과 시트를 나누어 “은행에서 도서관으로 간다면 어느 방향으로 가십니까?”와 같은 질문에 답하도록 했습니다. 그들은 두 개의 지명된 위치를 찾은 다음 한 곳에서 다른 곳으로 가기 위해 어느 방향으로 가야 하는지를 해독해야 했습니다.

Additionally, students achieve a better understanding of the knowledge through collaboration and high levels of engagement in project-based activities. Grade 4 students continued to learn about the map by designing maps. They came up with all sorts of ideas for creating a 2D maps that later they used to create a 3D version of their map.

此外,学生在团队合作和积极参与项目学习活动的过程中,进一步加深对所学知识的理解。四年级学生通过设计地图继续深入学习有关地图的知识。他们提出各种充满创意的想法来设计二维平面地图,并在此基础上创作三维立体地图模型。

또한 학생들은 프로젝트 기반 활동에 대한 높은 수준의 참여와 협업을 통해 지식을 더 잘 이해하게 됩니다. 4학년 학생들은 지도를 디자인하면서 지도에 대해 계속 배웠습니다. 그들은 나중에 지도의 3D 버전을 만드는 데 사용했던 2D 지도를 만들기 위한 모든 종류의 아이디어를 생각해 냈습니다.

Students were split into 6 pairs to create a 3D version of their map. Students worked collaboratively to build their map using a variety of physical materials such as paper, cardboard and much more to create their map in the Makerspace. Makerspace is a collaborative workspace at ISD provided for students to explore, invent, design, and make wonderful discoveries using a wide variety of technologies and tools.

Under the joint guidance of Mr. Mark and Mr. Rome, the ES Tech Integrationist, students applied what they learned in class about location and direction to 3D map making, while using their creativity and imagination. They used cardboard to make greenery, paper to make road, and materials such as pipe cleaners and plastic bottles to make various buildings and facilities in the city!

学生们划分为6个小组,分别制作自己小组的三维立体地图。学生分工合作,利用纸片和纸板等各种实物材料,在创客空间里制作地图。ISD创客空间是学校为学生提供的协作空间,学生可以在这里利用各类高新科技和工具尽情探索,享受发明与设计的乐趣。

在Mark老师和小学部技术老师Rome的共同指导下,学生不仅将在课堂上学习到的位置以及方向等知识运用到3D地图制作中,同时发挥创造力和想象力。他们利用卡纸制作绿化;利用纸片制作道路;利用通管钢丝以及塑料瓶等材料制作城市中各种建筑和设施!
학생들은 지도의 3D 버전을 만들기 위해 6쌍으로 나눴습니다. 학생들은 Makerspace에서 지도를 만들기 위해 종이, 판지 등과 같은 다양한 물리적 재료를 사용하여 지도를 만들기 위해 협력했습니다. Makerspace는 학생들이 다양한 기술과 도구를 사용하여 탐색, 발명, 디자인 및 멋진 발견을 할 수 있도록 제공되는 ISD의 공동 작업 공간입니다.

ES Tech Integrationist인 Mr. Mark와 Mr. Rome의 공동 지도하에 학생들은 수업 시간에 배운 위치와 방향을 3D 지도 제작에 적용하면서 창의력과 상상력을 발휘했습니다. 골판지로 녹지를 만들고 종이로 도로를 만들고 파이프 청소기, 페트병 등의 재료로 도시의 다양한 건물과 시설을 만들었어요!

Through learning Social Studies, ISD students further develop a deeper understanding of world civilization and aspects of human history by exploring the world and learning about diverse cultures and lifestyles. The inquiry and project-based learning in Social Studies can be applied across disciplines to reinforce different skills or knowledge areas. These various learning opportunities allow students to learn, develop, and apply a variety of skills that are essential for lifelong learning.

在社会科学课中,ISD学生通过探索世界、了解多样化的文化和生活方式,进一步加深对世界文明和人类历史发展的各个方面的理解。学生可以对社会科学课中的探究式和项目学习成果进行跨学科应用,以发展技能和巩固知识。多样化的学习机会让学生不断学习、培养和运用各项对终生学习具有重要意义的技能。

사회 학습을 통해 ISD 학생들은 세계를 탐험하고 다양한 문화와 생활 방식에 대해 학습함으로써 세계 문명과 인류 역사의 측면에 대한 더 깊은 이해를 개발합니다. 사회 연구의 탐구 및 프로젝트 기반 학습은 다양한 기술이나 지식 영역을 강화하기 위해 여러 학문 분야에 적용될 수 있습니다. 이러한 다양한 학습 기회를 통해 학생들은 평생 학습에 필수적인 다양한 기술을 배우고 개발하고 적용할 수 있습니다.
